What resolution are you looking to game on? If 1080p, then $1000-1200 should be good enough. If you want 1440p or something, then you'd have to step up your budget.

Anything more than $1000 (without spending $$ on a monitor, keyboard + mouse, OS, etc) is pointless, and will only be used as a bragging right. There are tons of guides on Google that go over the best specs for specific games.
