Is VAC blocking still a thing?

I haven't been on Steam for a few years, I remember back in the MW2 days you could get a VAC blocker. I wouldn't dare use those ones now, it's been at least 5 years and they're all outdated. I just started playing TF2 again but you get kicked within an hour?

I believe you can't even connect to VAC secured servers with VAC being blocked, and as soon as you start anything that would block it the game will probably self destruct.
