Can I Get VAC Banned Local Server?

I have a question I used a trainer called WeMod for L4D2 and enabled mods. I was stupid enough to use it on a local survival server and played for 15 minutes before closing the game what are the chances of me getting vac banned? It's been about 8 hours now and I'm unsure how long it can take. I'm a bit paranoid since it's my main account.

Most Valve games only have a problem if you join a VAC secured server. I think you should be okay if it was just a local server. If the cheat you were using is VAC detected usually you get banned pretty quickly if you enter a VAC secured server, it's under an hour if I recall correctly.

My experience is with CS and TF2, so it may not apply to L4D2, but typically they are all pretty similar.

Just wait and see, but I think you are probably fine.

Oh and by the way, if you add "-insecure" to your launch options (without the quotes), it will prevent you from joining VAC secured servers and getting yourself banned.

This is what concerns me because I think local servers technically automatically have VAC enabled by default at least in L4D2 anyways and it list it in the command that "VAC secure mode is activated" So that's why I'm kind of worried and want people's opinion who do this stuff more frequently or have L4D2 experience. That might sound dumb but I'm kind of a noob. I know the trainer I'm using is a injector and it was last updated in 2021.

If you are referring to the little icon on the loading screens that says something like "Connecting to a VAC secured server" with the shield, then it's not always accurate. Try launching the game in insecure mode, turning off your Internet connection and going into a game like you did before and see if it lets you play and shows that it's VAC secured. It's all based on whether you are on an online public server when it comes to getting detected by VAC.

The VAC module for older games like L4D2, CS:S, etc. are not updated very often, if it all, so it may not even be detected in the first place. I'm not familiar with the mod you are using, so I can't really comment on whether this would be the case here. If it gives you any peace of mind the completely public cheats here have not had any reported detections recently.

No it's not that here is a screenshot I just took its in the command console that says it vac secured even though I chose local server in the menu and I did the -insecure and it said it was disabled.

I know the text in the image is small but hopefully it showcases what I'm talking about

However this statement definitely gives peace of mind. I'm gonna assume if I don't get vac banned within a month I'll be safe. I don't know why people say it takes up a few months to get banned or a year I think they're bluffing.

Can't read the screenshot, but I'll take your word for it.

Taking a few months to get banned is more of a CS:GO thing, they will flag pay to cheat users and then ban them all in one massive wave. Essentially the cheat is detected for ages, but they don't immediately roll out bans so they can catch as many people as possible, false sense of security type of thing. I would be very surprised if they did that for L4D2.

Ah I see so with L4D2 you think I would've been banned within a hour if it was detected since its more of an unmaintained game? Is there any record of them being able to ban people once a cheat becomes detected though even if the cheat was used while it was undetected or does it just not work that way? Sorry for asking so many questions I just want to make sure I understand this properly plus it helps with my anxiety lol. From what I got from our chat it's unlikely since it didn't happen already.

Basically if I were to go and intentionally download a cheat that I knew for a fact was detected, if I connected to a VAC server I would be banned quickly. Not sure exactly how long as it can vary slightly, but in my experience it's under an hour, some say its a couple of days.

Valve obviously doesn't go around explaining how their anti-cheat and waves work as it would decrease their overall security. From what I understand (excuse me if anything is incorrect here, as I'm not an expert in VAC) VAC works mainly based on scanning signatures in memory, if a bad or detected signature is found you get flagged and banned. That's a super basic version of it that isn't entirely accurate, but it should give you an idea. If you want more details about it, you can Google, there are plenty of good explanations out there.

All you can do is wait and see, I'm pretty sure you'll be okay especially since you were on a local server.
