So I'm going through with the method, would I be able to use the laptop after the refund was given, or should i sell it?

As with mostly everything, once the money hits your bank, you're good to go (sell or use), they can't do anything about it after that point. It's up to you if you want to wait a few days after money hits the bank to see if anything strange happens though.
