Cool concept, but overall very busy. The way I personally design logos is to ensure that not many colors are used. I avoid any gradients at all costs and if things overlap I like to make sure there's a transparent outline around them to ensure that if it was to be printed in grayscale or something it would still be easily readable. I like to make things easily visible no matter what colour they are or what background they're on.
I absolutely love the shape you made and I like the idea of incorporating red and black. Those two colors mix really well together. I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to show you how I'd personally go about this logo. I've kept the shape and the red and black theme, and it's easily recognizable and noticeable on any background.
I've also only just noticed that this thread is from 2014 and that I look like a fucking moron.
