Account imposters with a high potential of scamming

Dear Support of MPGH,

first of all I would like to adress that we are enjoying MPGH as a forum by any means. It has brought up our business and we really enjoy to interact with the community around.

However I would like to mention a huge issue we are facing. Since our business is perfoming outsandingly, there are a lot of look-alikes of our MPGH Username. Examples for this can be found here:




We have brought this up multiple times to several mods, sadly the situation hasn't been changed.
Therefore, We insist to ban all imposters and look-alikes on the forum to enhance the security of our customers.

Futhermore I would appreciate if you could teach us methods to identify us on the first glance, not just with a mentioning in the Thread (e.g User-Banners as we have seen a couple on MPGH here)

Not really an account issue. Having a similar name is also not technically a break of site policies or rules. It is entirely up to you to make sure your 'customers' can identify you quickly and easily, not us. We're not a marketing firm, nor do we hold names in trademark; so I am unsure on how to address your second concern. Unless they actually try and impersonate you in a post, have an insulting name with yours involved, or claim to be you, nothing we can do about it. I'll leave this open in case you wish to take this up with the site owner, but will move to general help.

To be honest, with the implementation of IM you have to be really careless and ignorant to get in touch with an impostor. It's extremely easy to avoid them. In any case, whenever they've been reported as impostors we have been banning the accounts. There's honestly not much else to do because it's been made so easy to avoid getting into these situations with IM.

Yeah there's very little that we can do here. I've been banning and requesting IP bans on any accounts I find. There's a ton of that we have been doing.

Is there any way to prevent scammers to return? For example, I recently reported a new profile of ravidromy. He just abandoned that and created a profile under the name of Sponiter. I am sure he will be coming back just like any other scammer, but is there any way to detect them fast?

No, not much we can do about it. All we can hope for is their realization of how immoral their acts are, and how it is a discredit to their own character, and hope they stop and be a better person.

We can do our usual in banning off the site, warning people about them, et cetera... But that's being done and we'll keep going as usual.

I don't understand why you don't just ban non A-Z 1-9 ASCII characters in usernames though? Maybe allow a space, but not at the beginning or end of username? Like probably 0.01% of legitimate users actually have special symbols in their names

I get the forum probably hasn't been updated since like 2011 and all, but come on, that seems like a very basic fix.

This has nothing to do with spending a lot of time on this forum. The alterations in name are pretty clearly visible in IM and on the forum for comparison. You can also click to go to their profile from IM. In most cases, even their name colour is different on IM than on the forum. To safely add them, there's a button right in their thread to add them.

Not much to do on top of this already.
