And now that I think of it, I think it's impossible to go from 80%-90% with one assignment unless you get 100% + bonus marks.

Not really, it all depends on how many papers have been graded/turned in since your latest report card. Senior Papers (Giant Essay) are worth half your grade (for alot of AMERICANS), dunno if you canadans do it.

Over here it's broken down like this

Term = 70%
- Knowledge / Understanding - 20%
- Inquiry / Thinking - 20%
- Communication - 15%
- Application - 15%

Final = 30%
- Exam (in math it's 30%, no ISU) - 15-20%
- ISU (Independent Study Unit) - 10-15%
