Please Help, URGENT!

So I like playing COD 4 online, my version im unsure of (tell you why soon) and I want to update it to 1.7. I downloaded the patch, when its installing a message pops out that says "Setup has detected that you have a digitally distributed version of Call of Duty(R) 4 - Modern Warfare(TM) installed. Please refer to your original vendor for a Multiplayer Patch compatible with your version of the game." What should I do? I really want to update my game, Ive tried 1.6 too.. I get the same message. I did buy the game off steam, And the only soloution ive seen is to "Re install, And Patch backup"
Re install issues: Im not sure if you can re install a downloaded version, I know you can uninstall, But I dont wanna download another 9 gig again T_T
Patch Backup issues: I have no Idea whatsoever patch backup is, And how its done. If Someone could please help me out with everything, it would Be greatly appreciated and many thanks to you.

I wanted 1.7 because I want to join a promod server, Whenever I do it says, Server version is 1.0.

update via steam.

How do I do that?
I already have it on Auto update, so when there is one, It automatically does it.
But how do you manually do it? Its got no options...

do u have disk version?

Server Version is 1.0 seems dodgy.
Me thinks YOU do have 1.7 but the server version is 1.0
but post a screenshot of the main menu anyway. The one with create a class join game etc.

Nah, I explained In the description it was bough via Steam

Steam should update it automatically I think.

yes, but server version is 1.0 that says that the server is runnig patch 1.0 but you are running patch 1.7

Can you just run CoD and tell us your version?

You already have the LATEST CoD version. Go ingame and search for a server. You can only connect to servers whose have the same version as your client. So the latest(1.7).

I believe most everyone has 1.7, no one should have a problem connecting.
