Just an idea!

I recently changed all of my files inside of the Crossfire installation directory to read only, and I am still running version 1032 (on current games, the minimum is 1036). By doing this I believe I have made it so that HGWC does not check for updates, because the original launcher that updates 'version.ini' has not itself updated yet, because it still believes that 1032 is a valid build.
Works for me, I am still using the 4/30 hack. Maybe I'll post screenshots later.

you should show some screen shot that's would be heaven discovery.
