Hacking cosmetics/skins

Would trying to hack cosmetics and skins for yourself be risky? I think it would increase your chances of a ban if they see you didn't actually buy it. Can anyone with knowledge in this area let me know how risky it is? Thanks!

If you're cheating them for real money, they do care. And still, it's pretty hard if not impossible to hack yourself permanent cosmetics, I'm pretty sure.
