Didnt they say that you need more power or a different power supply to handle them?

I am getting one, but I would rather buy a 1440p 240hz IPS panel than a 3080. I mostly play Esports titles and I am already above 240fps with my 2080. But I will upgrade for sure when Cyberpunk comes out.

Ampere vs Turing is basically the architecture. Architecture dictates the design of the processor itself, including it’s strengths and limitations. Usually for consumers architecture is also denounced by NM. XX Nanometer means that the size of transistors is 14nm wide. For example Intel has been stuck on their 14nm architecture for the 10th series, 9th series, and 8th series.

When they say Ampere 8nm Samsung, that means that the size of transistors is 8nm. That means that on a GPU dye, you can fit more transistors. Thus requiring more power, but providing more raw power. The smaller the transistors you have the more transistors you can put on your chip. Also the size of transistors have no effect of performance, smaller transistors perform same as larger transistors. Smaller NM architecture also improves the yield of silicon wafers used to make processors, and therefore reduces the cost of making processors. For example, every silicon wafer will probably have a few defects in it. If a processor was so large that it used a whole silicon wafer, it would be difficult to ever make a processor without defects. Now if you can fit two processors on a single wafer, the odds of one of those processors not having a defect just went up.

This is shown in example of AMD using 7nm architecture for their Ryzen. Intel had supply problems and ryzen is actually cheaper to produce. Ryzen is also cooler than intel and has faster clock speeds. Ryzen is cheaper to make. Ryzen is on 7nm and intel is stuck on 14nm.

So TLDR: Newer architecture = smaller transistors => more transistors => faster clock speeds/better efficiency/less power draw/etc. Basically its faster. Wait for raw performance and benchmarks to truly see if their words are honest.

Idk I've always stuck with Intel just because I've never liked AMD. Though Intel does have a good grasp in the market as every computer in schools have one of there CPUs

No the basic way their 10nm desktop CPU is built has something wrong with it and they are 2 years behind. Intel Ice Lake was

IIRC, their 10nm was supposed to come out this year. But they kept having trouble with it and its pushed back.

It was supposed to be 10th gen, 10nm, but it came out only to laptops. 10th gen was actually better than Ryzen 3rd gen on laptops . The only thing intel had going for them is that their 14nm architecture was significantly better than AMD's and intel was able to stay on it for legit 3 generations of CPUs. but I hopped off intel to AMD after the 9700k only offered 8 Cores.

Then they also had a supply chain issue that has partially to do with building CPUs being less efficient, while its easier for AMD.

This is why so many people hate Intel these days. DOnt get me started on their bullshit Motherboard Sockets. Bunch of LGA Bullshit.

But if you have the money to spare, they mislead you with the numbers. Im going to BET that its not DOUBLE the performance. But its still an advancement in performance. Id generally wait for the LinusTechTips review of the GPU.
