Simple question about rez modding

ok so ive made a skin for the dragunov svd and ogt it applied and blah blah blah. i was wondering if it would cause any problems to completely replace the dtx template with, for example, some kind of texture or pattern. in other words do we have to "stay in the lines"? if not that makes thins a lot easier.

You have to put it on the right lines, If you don't it won't register, there are some things that you are not suppose to mod.
