1. OS-related
1.1 Running Warrock with Windows Vista (Admin/Compatability)
War Rock will run on Vista but you might have to do a few things in order for it to run;
1. Go to the Directory that you have Installed War Rock into (normally C:\program files\Gamersfirst\WarRock)
2. Find the following exe files; WRLauncher exe and WRUpdater exe and right click on each one then select Properties
3. Select the Compatibility tab.
4. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
5. Also select the box "Run this program as an administrator.
6. Select OK
7. Now go to the System directory in the War Rock Directory
8. Right click on WarRock exe and and select Properties.
9. Select the Compatibility tab.
10. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
11. Then select the box "Run this program as an administrator.
12. Select OK
This because of the increased layers of security that Vista has in regards to running programs.
1.2 Running War Rock with Windows 7 / auto macro error
In order to run War Rock on Windows 7 you may have to do the following steps:
1. Go to the directory that you have installed War Rock in.
2. Find WRLauncherprogram. Right click on it and then select properties.
3. Select the compatibility tab.
4. Select "run this program in compatibility mode" and choose one of the XP (Service Pack 2) or Vista service pack.
5. Press OK.
6. Then in the /system/ directory find WarRockprogram. Right click on it again and select properties.
7. Select the compatibility tab.
8. Select run this program as administartor, but NOT running in a compatibility mode. When I did this I got an error from hackshield telling me I couldn't run it in compatibility mode.
9. You should then be able to start War Rock as normal and the auto macro error should disappear.
additional tricks;
update drivers...
1.3 Running Warrock on 64-bit Windows
Warrock is already an older game and was coded and compiled for 32-bit operating systems. 32bit software working on 64-bit is due to architectural difference a hit-or-miss. In warrock's case it has now become a miss.
Remember that officialy 64-bit os'es are not supported, so don't yell at G1 that it doesn't work.
Possible fixes exist however;
Play with your compatability (cfr 1.1) to find the mode that suits your system, in most cases it seems to be windows 98.
You will probably notice Warrock slowing down, which seems due to warrock reverting to only 1 core. to fix that;
1. launch warrock.
2. click on the first OK.
3. click on the second OK.
4. when you see your hackshield loading up on the lower right corner of your screen, press ctrl alt del or shift+ctrl+del to open your Task Manager.
5. go to services.
6. look for warrockprogram
7. right click it.
8. choose affinity and check all cores. so if you have dual core check both cores, if you have quad check all four.
1.4 Black screen on 64-bit Windows 7
1. Right click the WarRock icon and choose "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
2. Choose the Recommended option
3. Click Next
4. Choose "Try a different configuration"
5. Check the boxes that say "The program does not display correctly" and "The program requires additional permissions" and click next
6. Check the box that says "The program changes the visual theme"
7. Click Next again
1.5 Failed to start transfer
when trying to install from gamersfirst live an error "failed to start transfer" pops up.
1.uninstall Pando Media Booster
2.run G1 Live!
3.reinstall Pando Media Booster
2. Issues on launch
2.1 Cannot input login data
1.tap the windows key* + D to go to desktop without closing War Rock click anywhere as long it's not on an icon.
2.Alt + Tab back into War Rock and you should be able to type your password in.
*windowskey;
2.2 Cannot get version.txt
If you get the "Cannot get version.txt" error then this usually means that the game is being blocked from connecting to the patch\game server. The number 1 cause of this issue is that any security or anti-virus software that you have installed is not allowing the following War Rock programs access to the internet.
WRLauncher. exe
WRUpdater. exe
Warrock. exe
To fix this you should open your anti-virus or security software and allow these three programs full access to connect to the internet. Most anti-virus and security programs have a way to manually add these to a list of allowed programs and you will have to consult the User Manual for the particular software you have have installed in order to figure out how best to add programs to the list. See below for tutorials for select anti-virus products
If making this exceptions don't seem to work (make sure to add all 3 programs, and if you can, the whole warrock folder and servers) simply uninstall your antivirus/firewall (temporarily).
2.3 Cannot get a File [pf_X_X_zip] (with X being a number)
Something may be blocking connection or your files are corrupted. Make sure that no firewall/security system/router/antivirus is blocking your connection. If nothing is blocking connection then re-patch the game, or even better - reinstall it.
Make sure you have administrator rights/privileges (cfr. 1.1)
additional;
reboot your modem/internet/router. this is done by plugging them out and leave power off for about 20 seconds.
plug back in..
<update 07/07/10;WARNING;editing version cfg is now discouraged; doing this will NOT allow you to connect to the servers, also if you do this you will have to uninstall War Rock, redownload and install War Rock again from Gamersfirst LIVE! So don't do it!>
2.4 Cannot extract sub*.zip (with X being a number)
1) Navigate to your WarRock directory (standard is C:\Program Files\WarRock)
2) Find the file "version.cfg", right-click it, and open it with notepad where it should look like this;
QUOTE
<!--
[PATCH INFOMATION]
Format = 0
Launcher = 12
Updater = 20
Client = 29
Sub = 0
Option = 0
[/PATCH INFOMATION]
//-->
3) There is a line (here in bold) in version.cfg labeled "sub", change this to the number that came with the error (in case it was sub3, change it to 3)
4) Save & close version.cfg
5) Launch War Rock normally and allow it to patch.
Additional fixes:
Go to My computer> Select Local disk C > program files > Gamerfirst >Warrock folder.
Look for the subx.zip, right click it and hit "extract all here".
If that doesn't work then delete the subx.zip/version.cfg file, causing the problem. This should make warrock re-patch itself again. Make sure that your antivirus/firewall are both disabled or the problem may repeat itself.
2.5 Cannot extract a zip file [Updater.zip]
Right click War Rock icon, select Compatibility tab and check "Run this program as an administrator". cfr.1.1
Additional fixes:
1.make a new user on your pc;
Go to start>control panel> users/users accounts, add "user account", set password if desired, just make sure the new account has administrator rights.
You can probably launch, update and play from the new user and perhaps even launch and play from your regular user.
<update 07/07/10;WARNING;editing version cfg is now discouraged; doing this will NOT allow you to connect to the servers, also if you do this you will have to uninstall War Rock, redownload and install War Rock again from Gamersfirst LIVE! So don't do it!>
2.edit your version.cfg in the warrock directory to;
QUOTE
<!--
[PATCH INFOMATION]
Format = 0
Launcher = 12
Updater = 20
Client = 29
Sub = 2
Option = 0
[/PATCH INFOMATION]

2.6 Game not starting after pressing [ok] twice / manual HS update
Check whether there is maintenance going on. There should be an announcement on forums in general discussion. If servers seem to be up nevertheless;
1. Disable any kind of AV that may be blocking Warrock cfr.3.2 and following
2. Manually update Hackshield;
1-Go to C:\Program Files > Gamers First > WarRock > Data > HShield > Update
2- Then right click on "Autoupprogram" and run it as administrator
3- Then when the window pops up, click "Start Update", This will manually update your Hack Shield
4- Once done, simply start warrock, let it patch, play
Additional fixes:
If the previous didn't work, try to download and unzip the complete HackShield Folder:
http://rs741.**********.com/files/297187016/HShield.zip
and overwrite the whole HShield folder located at C:\ Program Files\GamersFirst \WarRock\Data
additional #2;
reboot your modem/internet/router. this is done by plugging them out and leave power off for about 20 seconds.
plug back in..
additional #3;
reset your hosts file;
1. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc, and then click OK. (64 bit version of Windows, type %systemroot% \SysWOW64\drivers\etc.)
2. Rename the hosts file to hosts.bak.
3. Create the new default hosts file. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Right-click an open space in the %WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc folder, point to New, click Text Document, type hosts, and then press ENTER.
2. Click Yes to confirm that the file name extension will not be txt.
3. Open the new created hosts file in a text editor, for example, in the Notepad.
4. Copy the following text to the file:

2.7 Warrock does not open
Warrock stops reacting on the new updater window. Current bar is red, total is not moving.
1.open (my) computer/explorer, click "tools" > Folder options > view-tab (for vista it's under organize>folder and Search options)
2.select "show hidden files and folders" and deselect "hide extensions" in the advanced settings > click apply
3.open the warrock folder (normally C:\Program Files\GamersFirst\War Rock)
4.rightclick version.cfg, select properties > uncheck [read only] and open it with a text-editor (notepad will do)
5.you should get something like
CODE
<!--
[PATCH INFOMATION]
Format = 0
Launcher = 16
Updater = 27
Client = 31
Sub = 0
Option = 0
[/PATCH INFOMATION]
//-->
7.change that to

Client =
Sub =
Option =
[/PATCH INFOMATION]
//-->
8.save the changes
9.relaunch
10.if that did not work, delete the version.cfg file and restart
additional fixes
not sure if it works, but worth a try;
1.Right click "my computer" and hit properties, Click Advanced.
2.Under the "performance" section press "settings."
3.Click the tab for Data Execution Prevention.
4.Check the "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select") and add WRUpdater, WarRock, and HSUpdate to the list.
additional;
reboot your modem/internet/router. this is done by plugging them out and leave power off for about 20 seconds.
plug back in..
additional;
make sure your firewall is not blocking warrock/Hackshield
2.8 Self Registration Error
these files are related to vivox (cfr. the Vx at the beginning of filenames) which is a chatprogram that has been disabled in warrock.
you can simply ignore this error as it has no further inpact on warrock
2.9 NSIS_Error
When downloading/installing Warrock in GamersFirst LIVE! the following error pops up;
CODE
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include
incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the
installer's author to obtain a new copy.
Why do I get NSIS Error - NSIS
If you are confident and verify that the installer is indeed valid and in good condition, but still encounter the NSIS Error dialog box and stop halt and fail the installation, then another possible reason for NSIS error to appear is problematic network connectivity, either due to faulty network card, or Internet or LAN connection to upload, download and transfer files been blocked or restricted.
Network adapter failure is unlikely to be a common cause, unless you have problem surfing or downloading the file too. So, the resolution to NSIS Error can come down to simply checking if there is any firewall or other security software running on the computer that causing the NSIS Error.
One possible candidate is Windows Firewall which exists in Windows XP and later operating system such as Windows 2003, 2008 and Windows Vista. The solution is to disable the Windows Firewall and run the installer again.
Other reported problem maker that trigger NSIS Error include integrated nVidia NIC (network interface card) that includes a firewall. In this case, user have to change the network adapter to one without firewall or switch to wireless network temporarily to get the installer installed, as disabling the network card will still cause NSIS Error.
in short..better download again, but try bigdownload from the alternative downloads tab .
