1. The most common solution is completely re-installing Crossfire - You must perform a clean installation - this is to say remove any component of Crossfire from your computer, Please follow this tutorial ;
2. Some programs interrupt normal Crossfire game play, the most common are an Anti-Virus or Firewall is conflicting with Crossfire's normal gamer performance. You may want to temporarily disable these programs to see if this is the issue - If it is , Please add Crossfire to your programs "Exceptions List" Or consider switching to another program.
3. Some people have problems with Xfire and Crossfire running simultaneously - Try disabling Xfire when in game. Alternative voice chatting programs;
Go to ur program list and look for your z8 games folder, crossfire folder. inside the crossfire folder, look for the file version.ini. right click the file and open the properties tab. uncheck the read only button and click ok to apply. next, open the version.ini file. it should be in a note pad similar format. look for the file -latest version. change the number to 1054 and save the file. right click the version.ini file again and check back the read only button. You should be able to play now, this way saves so much more time than to download the game. Good luck! Cheers!!

same was here but nothing helped me ... just worked 2 times but gave me the same error again !!
Uninstall the game completely and delete all Cross Fire files.
Disable your antivirus.
Redownload the game.
Add crossfire to your antivirus exceptions
reinstall your game

Some viruses tend to replicate themselves to other executables, crossfire.exe being one of them (especially if you run it a lot). So first thing you need to do is get an AV and scan your whole PC thoroughly. Only then proceed to any attempts to "fix" it, since if you reinstall but still have the virus, it could just infect crossfire.exe again
Worth giving it a shot, happened even to me once (*cough* tools from mpgh *cough*).
But isn't everyone able to download again the new client and install it, have a lot of other solutions for these problems, and would stop with the reinstall the game on all Help Threads.
