Many traffic lights in medium and large cities are equipped with censors that allow law enforcement and emergency vehicles to change them from red to green immediately. The sensors and emitters that change the traffic lights to green work very very simply and anyone could spend only 50$ and create their own emitters to change the traffic lights just like the cops do. All you need is a strobe light that pulses at 14 or 10 hz. (Hi Priority 14Hz Lo Priority 10Hz that means 10 or 14 flashes per second. This information is taken directly from the Opticom and Tomar websites who manufacture the traffic preemption systems).

The strobe light doesn't have to be very powerful or visible to the human eye for the sensor to pick up the strobes pulses. In fact the use of an infrared pass filter makes the strobes light invisible to the human eye this is why you never see the strobe light pulsing on police cars and fire trucks. Infra red pass filters block all visible light and only allow invisible infrared light to pass and this is what the traffic preemption sensors pick up. The strobe sensors on the traffic lights are very sensetive but only work when they pick up 10 or 14 pulses of infrared light per second, any more or less and they don't change the traffic lights green.

Put the IR pass filter over the strobe light plug into the dc inverter and plug the dc inverter into your car then point the stobe at a traffic light that has a preemption sensor and wah lah the light should most definitely change in 2-3 secconds when using 14hz high priority and a little longer with 10hz low priority strobe.

WARNING! it is illegal and may be a felony to interfere with the operation of traffic lights. The amendment includes a maximum fine of $5,000 for willful use that does not result in injury or death, up from the current $3,000 limit.

It's prison time and $10,000 if someone is injured or killed.

Paragraph C was added making it illegal to buy, possess, manufacture, install, sell, offer for sale, or otherwise distribute a device for changing signals illegally. Fines and imprisonment of this new paragraph apply to those who furnish such a device as well.

By the way, flashing headlights rarely works, as the technology has improved considerably.

Alternately, cops may have detectors that pick up it.

I mean it's pretty obvious if you are the only emergency vehicle at an intersection, and you see the stoplight turn green, when it just was 10 seconds ago. You look at your computer screen, and find where it came from, and wham.
