Texture Swapping for Dummies.
I created this guide to teach people new to this site how to texture swap. It's really easy so I thought why not.
In this guide I will explain how it works and how it tricks the game into viewing a different texture in place of the old one.
1 - Understanding Texture Swapping - Texture swapping is very simple if you have the right programs. What texture swaps basically do is change the look of your gun like for instance making a Desert Eagle into a Black Desert Eagle or changing the M16A3 into the Prof. Version. Texture swaps can be made by simply using REZXtract and Xtracting a file. If you look in your Combat Arms Game folder, You will see that there are a ton of files named things like GUNS_T_PV_Melee.rez or GUNS_M_PV_Melee.rez. The "T" in GUNS_T_PV_Melee.rez stands for texture and the "M" in GUNS_M_PV_Melee.rez stands for Models. Xtract which ever file you want. If you want a pistol then Xtract GUNS_T_PV_Pistol.rez or GUNS_M_PV_Pistol.rez. I usually use GUNS_T_PV_Pistol.rez because you can use DTXView 2 view these. DTXView lets you view DTX files which are files they put in side of .REZ files. These are the guns. Inside of a GUNS_M_PV... file their are LTB files. Which can be read also I just don't have the program or the plugins to read them. Basically making a texture swap is changing the name of a file and fooling Combat Arms into thinking that's the file that's supposed to be read.
2 - How to make a Texture Swap - Xtract whichever file you would like to use. (As an example I will use GUNS_T_PV_Melee.rez) to do this open rezXtract and click open. then find the file you want to use and click open. A bunch of words should pop up. Wait till the words stop popping up and it says it's done. Then close REZXtract. Next you will go into the folder that holds all these DTX files (Found in your Combat Arms Game folder) and find a the file you want to use. In my case I would be switching the M9 with the M9 Professional. Find the file that you want to change the gun into. I would find the M9 Professional file. Then to make sure it's the right file, Open DTXView and click open, go into the Combat Arms Game folder and the folder that contains the Xtracted DTX or LTB files and view the file you want to use. Again, I would view the Professional M9. Then drag that file to desktop and change it to the EXACT same name as the other file your switching it with. Then inject it and Wallah! You made a Texture swap. Make sure you texture swap something with the same basic shape, You wouldn't be able to say Texture swap the M16A3 with the FAMAS G2, Well you could but it wouldn't look like a Famas, Try changing a Deagle into a Gold deagle. or a M16A3 to a M16A3 Professional. Now have fun and get modding! If you need any of the files included in this tut, google them. Or search this site for them. They're on here somewhere. If you can't find them on google or on here google Black Angel Software.
