Guide to Back up your Save Data.
It’s a good idea to backup your game saves every week or so. Can you imagine playing a game like crazy and advancing past the half way mark only to have a card fault render your game save corrupt and unusable? Read our PSP Backup Quick guide and you can avoid this trauma, and also learn how to move your game saves from one memory card to another.
There are some applications available for download that will help with the chore of backing up the files on your PSP.
* iPSP which is available for Windows or Mac computers.
* Sony’s own PSP Media Manager also has a one click full backup solution built in.
* PSP Save is a tiny free tool that also helps with PSP backups.
If you already have one of those tools, you are already set up to make your own game backups. If you don’t and you do not want to either buy or install software for this purpose, don’t worry, because backing up your PSP files and game saves is easily done using nothing more than Windows Explorer.
Advanced users comfortable with dragging and dropping files, or cutting and pasting files in Windows Explorer will already know all they need to know to backup save games, as it’s simply a case of copying the files off the PSP onto your PC. For anyone not sure how to do this, the following step by step process will show you the way!
Connect your PSP to your computer, start the USB connection on the system screen, and open Windows Explorer on your PC.
You should see a Removable Disk somewhere near the bottom of the listing. On my computer is labelled PSP 001 (the name I gave my PSP), and drive letter S (the drive letter is assigned by Windows).
Double click on the PSP drive folder, then open the folder called PSP. Now open the folder called SAVEDATA, and you should see a list of folders, each one will contain your game save files.
Now Right Click on the SAVEDATA folder and select Copy, as shown in the image above. This leaves the data on your PSP, but also makes a copy in your computer’s memory. Now we need to save that data onto the PC’s hardrive.
Select any folder on your computer, perhaps even make a new one called “PSP Backups“, once selected simply Right Click again, but this time select Paste from the popup menu. You should see the files copied into your new backup folder.
If you have to copy these back to your PSP at any stage, as a recovery, or to put on a different memory card simply do the same in reverse. Browse to your backup folder on your computer, Right Click and select Copy, then browse to our PSP folder and select Paste to put the files onto your PSP. Always make sure that the folder structure is maintained as shown in the above example.
Keep regular backups, it’s simple, quick, and can save a lot of headaches!
