Great book. Started learning last week and I'm progressing pretty well. Granted, I already have programming experience, but this is by far the best java programming tutorial book out there. I've attached it in a form of a PDF for everyone's convenience .
Now, the book is recommends that you don't use an IDE throughout the book because IDE's shelter you and keep you learning some vital information. All you need throughout the book a text editor and cmd, but when you do get there, here are the 3 most popular Java IDE's:
1. Intellij IDEA: My personal favorite. Very polished GUI. Compiles 10x faster than all of the other IDE's. Unfortunately, it costs money. Though there is a community version (lite), I preferred to pirate the full version.
2. Eclipse: Definitely the most used by Java Programmers (Correctly me if I'm wrong). Completely free. Best for larger projects. Handles big work spaces great. GUI is pretty bland though you can always install a new theme.
3. Comes in included with the Java SDK Download: Can't say much about it. Never used it before. From what I've heard, it doesn't support certain development which requires the use of 3rd Party Software.
@Horror , Is this sticky worthy? So at least everyone can see it...
