Material hacks bannable? (TF2)
So ye this is probably going in the wrong place.

Anyway. I recently got spotted using a self-made material hack for tf2 (it's shit but it works) and someone frapsed me. I may have been using it abit obviously but I was wondering if I can actually get banned. I've not altered the games memory, dynamic link libraries or the executable. Should I hide all my items or should i just keep cool about the whole thing? thanks in advance

I doubt it.
Server ban, not vac.

I mean the evidence is pretty.... sufficient.. I think they do have some policy that if you are "cheating" even if it's legal you can get banned.

Didn't you listen to me. VAC2 (TF2) can't ban you for that sort of modification, so unless TF2 has implemented VAC3 then you're in the clear and you will only suffer as far as I know from a serverban, unless they break into your computer to look through your personal files to see that you are running modifications.
Which is illegal.

If I'm honest. No I didn't listen to you. I read what you were saying and it said doubt. I can doubt that I'll get shot in the head by a rabbit, that doesn't make it true. But my point was there is video evidence to justify the use of the modifications.

VAC does not detect 'content hacks', where, for example, texture transparency and color are manipulated, since they do not involve modifying any program code. In Source engine games the option to create "pure" servers (sv_pure) that prevent custom content from overwriting the game's defaults was created to alleviate this.[18] Although this does not apply to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 & Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which does not allow the editing of any game files except config files.[17]

I see what you're saying. But it's no longer a question of detection. It's a question of report.

Material hacks can't be detected. . .

Plus if VAC Detected Material hacks VAC would ban people using skins or huds. So i'm pretty sure it's not detected.

Be that as it may, but it doesn't really matter as VAC2 can't scan your files.
So even if you did get reported they wont be able to actually prove anything.

Not true, to get materials to appear through walls you need to implement a special variable in the texture. For example, in CS:GO they now vac ban you for using materials that sue that function, but they will not ban you for making your guns look different.

As for the op's question, you were not vac banned for using a materials hack in tf2 and that is for sure, even if you are reported, Valve does not ban only based on reports, and since you are using the materials wallhack then Valve would not have been able to prove an cheating.

You must have done something else.

But the people in Valve's servers think that reporting gets the hax0r banned faster!
