Sorry to sound like a big time noob here, but how do you go about opening the file? I double click the .jar and it opens up a command prompt window for a second, but then nothing happens.

place the jar and .json in the /.minecraft/versions directory... then go on and change the version to the launcher's version.

I have a cracked launcher that doesn't work with stuff past 1.5.2, that's why I was hoping this would help me run 1.6.2. But if I still need a new launcher to use it this doesn't help me. Oh well.
