How does VAC work?

How does VAC work? Does it only scan the running processes, or everything on your pc?
Can I get banned for having detected hacks on my pc without executing the file?
When I'm playing MW2 while in the Background running an MW3 hack, can i get banned?
Or does VAC only verify hacks for the game you are just playing?

Valve Anti Cheat System is implented by theirself and is not controled by Valve, I dont know how it works but uhm yeah i guess they have ALLOT of experience to make a system like that work so good lol.

If you are looking for how they ban people,
They usually look at the signature of the programs that people are using to cheat and add them to their blacklist.

this. That is why if you use a PRIVATE cheat, it is less likely to be detected because they won't get a tip of who's using what

Could you add a load of junk code to make a detected cheat undetected again?
Maybe you could randomly generate a load of crap on startup to keep it undetected.

afaik, I've seen it happen before, and I've tested it myself... Seems that it can help with some of the detection.

You can still be VAC banned on TF2. If you're afraid of losing your account, don't use hacks. It's as simple as that

I meant I'll be trying it out on TF2 on another account, TF2 is free now.
