What does and doesnt get you VAC'd

Already I'm first to admit I'm a nub when it comes to hacks and the only few times I have are generally in the rank

/unlock categories (BF2, COD4, ect.) but I am wondering, as a point of interest, so far what's known, what does and doesn't get you VAC'd? MW2's my first experience with VAC and while I've used Cheat Engine a few times already I'm wondering if it's gona get me vac'd in a few days.
Just to clarify, starting MW2, turning on CE and click the EXE, THEN playing a game, checking for addies, rinse/repeat WONT get you banned? However if you do (for some dumb reason) start MW2, join a game, and then click the EXE that will get you banned? Have I got this right or should I be glad I already "exchanged" my "defective" MW2 copy for a fresh sealed, copy I have in reserve?

Can't edit but I forgot to add this, would scanning for addies WHILE playing get you caught by vac? As in you set up a search for lets say, 0 variable, and while it's scanning, join a game?

It might trigger the vac's extensions, which search for things like Cheat Engine, so it would be safe to say that there is a possibility that you might get caught by a vac while scanning for addies.

Even though it's already part of the exe and not actively injecting anything (just observing after all)?

CoDShitLoader is detected, most hacks that use WPM in a certain code area will trigger a VAC ban.

Anyone been banned yet for Cheat Engine or EA on MW2? If so how long did it take for it to kick in? I haven't used CE in over a week 1/2 and used it the first time about two weeks ago and haven't been banned on that account yet.

And to prevent the cheat detected from hurting and banning you
If you have a moden with a standby button it works best. Or just a router to unplug from. Boot up your game and have the plug handy. Unplug JUST A SPLIT SECOND before running the hack program. If cheat detected pops up, it's going to wait till it reconnects to send the packets that flag you. Thats when you go to this handy windows tool called SYSTEM RESTORE. xD Restor back to before you did this and you know the cheat is detected and It reverts all your stuff you just did. meaning steam never detected and you never get flagged.

A bit much work no?

Not when you don't feel like buying another copy of the damn game
System restore takes me like 3 minutes to test the hack and revert
No work at all.

I found a way around buying another game. I just returned the tainted copy and claimed it was "defective" and got a fresh game/CD Key.
